John Sanders Bray was born on 20 December 1883.[1] He was the son of William Bray and Arabella Bayly.
At age 30, living in North Tamerton, he married Minnie Gertrude Finning in September 1914 in Pinhoe, Devon; his father was William Bray.[2] John's marriage was registered in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter of 1914 in the St Thomas district (Devon).[3]
John was a land agent, age 37, when he joined the Conciliation Lodge of the Freemasons in Holsworthy on 10 October 1921 [transcribed incorrectly as "10 March 1921"]. His brother William Sidney Bray, farmer of North Tamerton, had also joined the same lodge 8 years earlier at age 34 on 13 October 1913. There was also a William Thomas Bray, farmer, who joined on 10 December 1921 from Holsworthy (not sure who he was).[4]
John Sanders Bray of 4 West Avenue Exeter died at age 78 on 22 April 1962, which was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1962 in the Exeter district.[5] Probate was on 29 June 1962 at Exeter to William Stanbury, farmer, and William Victor Bray, technical representative, for £16209 9s.[6]
1891 Census[7]
In the 1891 census, John (age 7) was the son of William Bray in Holsworthy, North Tamerton, Cornwall, England. Perhaps William's wife Arabella called herself "Anne"; Pyworthy is west of Holsworthy, Devon, but she was born in Warbstow, Cornwall. This is the only record for a daughter named Maud (10) who would have been born in1881. These birth places should really be North Tamerton, Cornwall, instead of Tamerton Folioot, which is located north of Plymouth in Devon.
