Biography

Global Cemeteries Project
Jessie (Breckenridge) McDonald is buried in Scottish Cemetery, Caledonia, Illinois.

Jessie was born in 1848 in Scotland. She was the youngest child of Edward Breckenridge and Margaret Mitchell.

She came to the United States with her family as a child in 1854. [1]

They settled in Guilford, Illinois. [2]

She married John McDonald in 1871.[3]

Jessie passed away in 1925. [4]

Family Secret?

According to "Saga of our Kintyre Kin", Janet, her mentally disabled older sister is actually her mother. [5]

Scotland 1851 Census has a 2 year old Mary Boyd in the home of Edward Breckenridge listed as "Grandaughter" [6]

In 1860 there's a 9 year old daughter, Jessie, born about 1851. [7]

This would exlplain why her birthday is too close to her brother Robert.

I share this because it is published as well known in the family, however I am listing Jessie as the child of Edward and Margaret because that is how she was raised.
