Alexander Breckenridge lived in Appalachia, in Virginia.

Alexander Breckenbridge, son of Robert Breckenridge and Mary (Poage), Breckinridge, was born about 1752 in Augusta County, Virginia.[1]

He was a Captain in the American Revolution, captured by the British and held prisoner aboard ship in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina, 1780-1781.[1]

Marriage

On 9 December 1784 in Jefferson, Virginia (now Kentucky), he married Mrs. Jenny (Buchanan) Floyd, widow of Col John Floyd, the explorer, and daughter of Col John Buchanan and Margaret Patton.[2] Jenny had three sons from her marriage with John Floyd:
  1. William Preston Floyd, died of smallpox in 1783
  2. George Rogers Clark Floyd, born c. 1779
  3. John Floyd, born 1783 (25th Governor of Virginia)
Alexander raised Jane's two sons. Alexander and Jane had three sons of their own:
  1. James Douglas Breckenridge
  2. Henry Brown Breckenridge
  3. Robert Breckenridge

Death and Burial

Alexander died in 1801 and was buried in Floyd-Breckinridge Cemetery, Plymouth Village, Jefferson County, Kentucky. [3][4]

Last Will and Testament

Alexander signed his last will on 16 May 1797 in Jefferson County, Kentucky and was proved in court during the June 1801 session.[5]
"I Alexander Breckenridge of the County of Jefferson and State of Kentucky do make this my last Will & Testament revoking all other wills or writing by me formerly made.
All my Estate real & personal I give to my beloved wife Jenny Breckenridge to her & her heirs forever except such as will be hereafter disposed of which is to fulfill any contract I may leave made for the conveyance of lots of Lands. The lands for my services in the last war (to wit) 3000 acres on the North west side of the Ohio between the Miami and Scioto located by my Brother Robert Breckenridge one third part of which he is entitled to for his trouble in Locating, the other two thirds may be Equally divided Between my three sons (Vizt) James, Robert & Henry Brown Breckenridge and one thousand acres part of the same warrant I lived located on the Ohio opposite the mouth of the Saline, my be equally divided among my three sons above named to them and their heirs forever.
I do hereby nominate and appoint my wife Jenny Executrix and my Brother Exor. to this my last will signed and dated this 16th day of May 1797.
