Biography
Mary Breed, b. Lynn, Mass., April 29, 1772 was the only child of Hannah (Bacheller) & Josiah Breed.
She married (banns of intent published @ Lynn, April 7, 1799) Elijah Downing, Esq. [b. Lynn, Feb. 10, 1777, son of Caleb and Sarah (Coats) Downing]. This couple had 7 children, five of whom died in infancy:
- Polly Downing, b. Feb. 11, 1800
- Eliza Downing, b. Apr. 15, 1801
- Eliza Downing, b. May 26, 1803
- Mary Downing, b. Oct. 18, 1804
- Elijah Downing, b. Apr. 19, 1810
Mary (Breed) Downing died Nov. 17, 1813, and Elijah married (2) on July 5, 1814, Clarisse Jacobs. He died Aug. 14, 1838, age 61 years.
