Biography

Ruth Breed was a daughter of Susanna (Newhall; 1695-1738) and Joseph Breed (1691-aft.1738), of Lynn, Massachusetts. Ruth's birth date is listed as 21 September 1721 in the Breed genealogy [1], however the Vital Records of Lynn shows the 30th.[2]

Ruth married John Stocker March 17, 1742/43 at Lynn, Massachusetts, as his second wife. Eight children are documented [3]:

  • Susanna Stocker (1 Sep 1744 -)
  • John Stocker (7 Sep 1746 - 8 Mar 1795)
  • Ebenezer Stocker (9 Feb 1749 - 1807)
  • Marshall Stocker (27 Mar 1751 - 17 Jan 1790)
  • Martha Stocker (1 Jan 1753 -)
  • Ephraim Stocker (7 Jan 1756 - 15 Apr 1838)
  • Jane Stocker (1758 - 25 Mar 1805); married Ezra Brown
  • Daniel Stocker (7 Feb 1761 -)

Ruth (Breed) Stocker died 2 January 1814, probably in Lynn.

Notes

The date of birth appears as "31" in the VR of Lynn, however September has no such date. The clue that it is a zero is in the "th" written next to it.

Per the Breed genealogy, John Stocker died probably in May 1762. There is no evidence yet presented for Ruth's marriage to anyone else.

Observe care not to confuse this person with Ruth (Breed; bef.1727-aft.1762), daughter of Ruth (Haynes) and Jonathan Breed, who married Ivory Witt.
