Biography

Phebe M. Breed, b. 30 Mar 1809, was the second child of Nancy (Belden) & Jedediah Breed. Her birth location probably was Cornwall, Orange County, New York (per online memorial site).

She married Albert G. Owen (1809 - 1888 per grave marker ^[1]); they resided Washingtonville, New York. They may have had 5 children, however only the following have been identified so far:

• Frances A. Owen (1835 - 1841) ^[2].
• Lucy A. Owen, b. 7 Apr 1841; married John Ditmars Rockafellow (1828 - 1900) ^[3]
• George Albert Owen (1842 - 1918)

This family resided consistently in Blooming Grove (Orange County), New York ^[4],^[5],^[6],^[7],^[8].

Phebe M. (Breed) Owen died 22 May 1893 at Middletown, New York, at the residence of her daughter (Lucy). Her grave is in Washingtonville Cemetery, Washingtonville, Orange County, New York, USA ^[9].

Notes

Phebe's middle initial probably was not N, more likely 'M', as appears in several records and on the grave stone.

The cited census records of Blooming Grove (Orange County) from 1850 present an interesting situation. The entire Albert G. Owen (misspelled Owens) family appear to have been counted twice, both by the same census recorder, bearing the same date of 17 August. In both sets of records, Albert G. Owens was noted as 'painter'; one adds that he also was 'choirmaster'. All other members of the household are named similarly between the two records. The numbers of households in order of visitation are different, as are the adjoining surnames of other families in sequence. One might hope that situations such as this would be rare.
