Masten was born in 1830 in Indiana. He was the son of Russell Breeding and Delaney Brooks. Masten was married to Lily R. Ward, and then later, to Margaret C. White. He passed away in 1905 in Missouri.
Note: Some documents have the surname as "Breeden". Whereas others have it as "Breeding."
