Do not merge to John Breeden (1794-1859). They are not the same person.

Biography

John was born about 1798 in Tennessee.

His first wife was Nancy Frost.[1] They were the parents of Joseph Frost Breeden and an unknown daughter (b.ca. 1820).

He married Mary Forrester in 1822.[2] They were the parents of Nancy, Hannah, Lydia, Deborah, Martha, Abel, and William.

He moved with his family to Missouri about 1842.

In 1846, there is a marriage to Nancy Edgman, nee Forrester. By 1850, both are still living, but not with each other.

In 1848, he remarries to Elizabeth, who has had a previous marriage to a Crawford.[3]

Last record is the 1880 census in Comache County, Texas. The details of his death remain unknown. He is believed to be buried in the Vaughan Cemetery in Maries County, Missouri based on interviews with family living pre 1944 (King's book).[4]

Notes

The records for the Breedens in Sevier Co, Tenn. and Roane Co., Tenn. are getting co-mingled. Many misleading charts on the internet.

  1. John Breeden (1794-1859). Lived in Sevier County, Tenn and died there. Not known to have spent time in Missouri. He married someone named Nancy, but their marriage record does not appear to have survived. Living in Sevier Co in 1840, 1850. Dead by 1859.
  2. John Breeden (abt.1798-aft.1880). Lived in Roane County, Tennessee, married 2x there, then moved to Missouri. This family is discussed in Everett King's book, History of Maries County, Missouri. Marriage to Nancy Frost and possible burial at Vaughn Cemetery in Missouri belong to this man. Nancy Frost was likely dead by 1822, when John remarries. He is living in Roane Co in 1830, 1840 and in Missouri in 1850. Still living in 1880.

Using King's book for guidance, John was born in North Carolina, lived in Kingston in Roane Co., Tennessee prior to moving to Missouri ca 1842. King says he was born in NC, but all census records are saying Tenn.

In 1842, John's daughter, Hannah marries in Roane Co., Tennessee, but 1850 finds her living with her husband in southwest Missouri in Barry Co. In 1848 in Barry Co., a John Breeden gets married. This same man is later found living in Miller Co, then Maries Co, Missouri and appears to be our subject.

Living with daughter Lydia in the 1870 census-where?? Found in Comanche Co, Texas in 1880??

Did not find in 1870. 1820 census for Roane Co appears to be among those lost.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
