Hannah was born in 1887. She was the daughter of John Breen and Deborah Breen. Her parents were very likely related.
Her father was a farmer and literate. He spoke both Irish and English.
Her mother's name is given as 'Annie' on Hannah's death certificate, but this is almost certainly a clerical error. Hannah was herself known as 'Annie' and this may have been attributed to her mother in error. Her mother's name was correctly transcribed as Deborah on the death certificates of Hannah's siblings, Bridget and Henry.
Hannah's mother had passed away by the census of 31 March 1901, and she was living with her father, her grandmother Mary and her siblings Mary (Molly) and Henry, at house 2 Magherasrahan, Curraghmore, Kerry. [1]Her older sister Deborah (Gubby) was living in the next house with her first husband James Breen and their sister Catherine (Katie).
Annie migrated to the United States with her sister Bridget, departing Queenstown in 1904, arriving in Philadelphia. [2] Their brother Henry followed in 1911.
She married Joseph Francis Mullin in 1915, [3]and had 8 children.
She passed away in 1961 [4]from cardiovascular disease.
The family name is spelled Mullen on their headstone. They were known as Mullin in Ireland but seem to have become Mullen in the United States.
