Yet also in looking at old scandinavian records, besides the name Brenden, it appears there is also is it Nilsdatter or Arnesdatter...?

pjsworld1   (View posts) Posted: 29 May 2008 7:43PM Classification: Obituary

From the April 16, 1935 edition of the Barron County News-Shield Mrs. Ole A.O. Espeseth Estri Brenden was born at Valders, Norway, Feb. 22, 1852, and died April 9, 1936, at 2 p.m. of pneumonia at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charlie Frisinger of Maple Grove at the age of 84 years, one month and 18 days.

She immigrated to America in 1869 and located in Dane county where she was married in 1872 to Ole A. O. Espeseth. They removed to Barron county in 1873 and homesteaded 100 acres in Maple Grove, being among the earliest pioneers in a wild country with mostly Indians for neighbors.

Mr. Espeseth died Feb. 25, 1890, and nine children had been born to them, of whom three are living. Four children died in infancy, a son Andrew and a daughter Tilda died when small children.

She is survived by two sons, Ole of Maple Grove and Gilbert of Prairie Farm, and one daughter, Ida (Mrs. Charlie Frisinger) of Maple Grove, two brothers, Ole Brenden of Washington and Louie Anderson of Barron, one sister Annie (Mrs. Andrew Anderson) of Washington, 19 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

She was widely known and loved as she took great pleasure in helping others. Funeral services were held Monday at the New Scandinavia church in Maple Grove, the Rev. B.B. Ostrem, of whose church she was a member, officiating, with internment in the church cemetery beside the grave of her husband.
