From time to time facts are erroneously put together to create a "person" who never actually existed. These errors end up in circulation, come to be believed as facts, and live on to cause continuing confusion and frustration. The purpose of this profile is to identify the fictions and how they arose so that they pass out of usage.
Because the subject of this profile never existed, this profile is not linked to parents, siblings, or children. However, persons often associated with the profile are linked in the narrative below.
Review of wills and other records shows no evidence that Katherine, Henry or Margaret ever existed as children of Giles Brent and Mary Kittamaquund. A full discussion of the claims and the evidence can be found at the "Legend of Katherine Brent Marsham".
Died Young
Three children, singly or together, often appear in secondary sources as children of Mary Kittamaquund and her husband Giles Brent. A recent but unsuccessful effort is Roberta Jestes' work. [3] None of the three appear in Giles' Brent's will or other contemporary documents where one would expect children to appear, and they should not be linked as children of this family.
