Byard was born to Alexander Brenton and Ann Jeffers in 1895. He was a twin to Frederick Cornell. He enlisted in July 1917 with the Nova Scotia Regiment and served in Canada, England and France in WW1. He married Gertrude Hazel Archibald and had two children. The family resided in Birch Hill, then in Brookfield for a while and then on to Ontario. He died in 1869 at Ingersol, Oxford Co., Ontario at age 73 and was buried at St. Marys Cemetery.
