Johanna, which is Latin for Joan, was the sister of Sir William Brereton, knight.^[2]

Joan married Sir Robert Aston, knight, of Haywood and Parkhall in co Stafford.^[2] Sir Robert was the son of Sir Roger Aston, knight, died 1447, and his first wife Jocosa, the daughter and coheir of Sir Baldwin Frevill, knight.^[2]

Joan and Sir Robert had children:

1. Isabel married Richard Bagot de Blithefeld.^[2]
2. John Aston, died 1483, married Elizabeth, the daughter of Sir John Delves, knight;^[2] and
3. Parnell, who married Richard Bydulfe;^[2]
