Biography

Volga German
Emilia Brester is a Volga German.
Emilia Brester has German Roots.

Emilia Brester was born 12 December 1910 in Grimm, Russia, to parents Jakob Brester and Elisabeth Schäfer. She was their second daughter named Emilia; the first Emilia died as an infant.

Her parents were living in the same household in the 1897 Grimm census, although they were not yet married. Her father was a hired hand working for her mother's grandfather Christian Schäfer. The couple married between 1897 and 1901, and their first child was born in late 1902.

The 1897 Grimm census is the last census available or the Colony of Grimm. Therefore, any information about descendants comes from descendant records. Surviving villagers were forced to move east in 1940, with little time to pack things like family records. Any belongings left behind were most likely destroyed. This means that the likelihood of finding paper records for anyone born between 1898 and 1960 is low.

A copy of the 1897 census entry with her parents' names is show below as it helps connect this child to aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.
