Johannes Brester was born about 1827 in Grimm. He married Katharina Margaretha Schmidt by 1847 and they had at least four documented children by the time of the 1857 census:

In the 1857 census, Johannes is listed as the nephew of Georg Peter Brester by an unnamed brother, but if you search the 1834 census for name and age matches, he is the son of brother Johann Michael Brester and his wife Regina. Michael and Regina Brester do not appear in the 1857 census with the Brester family; Michael passed away and Regina remarried Johann Philipp Kerbel and is listed with his family. Johannes did have two sisters, Maria Margaretha and Maria Regina, but they most likely were married by 1857 and living with their husbands' families.
