Biography

This is the profile for Mary Brewer, daughter of Thomas Brewer of Roxbury, who married William Lane in Boston on August 21, 1656.

Date and Place of Birth

May's date and place of birth are uncertain. There is a record of the baptism of a Mary Brewer, daughter of Thomas Brewer, on February 8, 1623/4 at St. Alphage in Greenwich, Kent, England^[1] It is highly unlikely, however, that that baptismal record relates to this profile's Mary Brewer because (1) it would mean she was 34 at the time of her first marriage, (2) it would mean that she had her last child when she was 44, (3) there are no St Alphage records for her probable siblings John and Sarah and (4) there is no evidence connecting this profile's Mary Brewer or her father, Thomas Brewer of Roxbury, to the St Alphage area. Based on the date of Mary's marriage (1656), Mary was probably born sometime in 1631-1636, with 1634 being a reasonable midpoint estimate. Since, as discussed in her father's profile, he probably immigrated about 1638, Mary was probably born somewhere in England.
