Biography

Polly was born in February 1, 1823 in Missouri. Her birth most likely took place in Madison County, Missouri as her parents were enumerated on the 1830 Madison County, Missouri census.[1] She was the daughter of Nimrod Brewer and Mary Short

Her father, Nimrod, had come to Missouri by 1815 and married Mary Louisa Short (last name not confirmed) about 1817.

Mary is residing in her parents household along with four brothers and a sister in Twelve Mile, Madison County, Missouri in 1830. [1] She is still residing in Madison County, Missouri in 1840 in the household of her parents along with six brothers and a sister. [2]

She probably married Joseph Colyott about 1842-1843 in Madison County, Missouri as their eldest child, a daughter is 7 years of age on the 1850 Madison County, Missouri Census. [3] Their son William passed away in Iron County, Missouri on November 8, 1928. His death certificate records his parents as Joseph Collyott and Polly Brewer. [4] Another son John George Colyott passed away October 29, 1950 in Washington County, Missouri and his death certificate also lists Joseph Colyott and Polly Brewer as his parents. [5] Their son Jasper Allen Colyott who passed away January 8, 1934 in Iron County, Missouri, has Joseph Colyott and Polly Brewer listed on his death certificate as his parents. [6]

Mary and Joseph left Madison County, Missouri and are residing in Black River Township, Reynolds County, Missouri in 1860. Included in their household are three daughters and three sons. She is 37 years of age adn listed as being born about 1823 in Missouri. The rest of her family are all listed as being born in Missouri. [7]

In 1870 they are residing in Logan Township, Reynolds County, Missouri along with four sons and a daughter. Mary is listed as being 46 years of age being born about 1824 in Missouri. Her husband and children are all listed as being born in Missouri. [8]

Mary, her husband, Joseph and son John are residing in Lesterville, Reynolds County, Missouri in 1880. She is listed as 57 years of age being born about 1823 in Missouri. Her husband and son are both listed as being born in Missouri. [9]

Joseph died December 15, 1897 in Missouri. Polly is enumerated in the household of her daughter on the 1900 Liberty Township, Iron County, Missouri census. [10] She is listed as Polly Colliott, born February 1823, age 77, mother of 10 children of whom 7 were living. We can only account for 8 of the children, so there must have been 2 who died young. There was a 21-year span in the births of Joseph & Polly's children. Daughter, Mary Louisa was married 4 years & had a 3-year-old son before her youngest brother was born. Daughter, Sarah Jane had been married 2 years and her first son, Joseph Martin Willard, was born the same month as her youngest brother, John George Colyott.

Mary passed away on December 25, 1905 in Iron, Iron County, Missouri, just 2 days after her daughter Mary Louisa, with whom she was living passed. Her place of burial is unknown but there is a virtual findagrave memorial dedicated to her. [11]
