Biography

William Brewster AKA Bruster

Origin

William was born 22 March 1669 at Norwich, New London County, Connecticut.[1] He was a son of Benjamin Brewster and Ann (Addis) (Dart) Brewster, daughter of William Addis and Millicent Wood, widow of Ambrose Darte/Dart.[2]

Norwich Vital Records shows William was born in March, 1669 (no day recorded), son of Benjamin Brewster and Ann Dart.[3]

Family

William married twice.

  1. He married January 8, 1692 at Norwich, Connecticut, as his 1st, to Elizabeth Reed.[3] She died March 11, 1692 at Norwich.[3]
  2. He married, as his 2nd, to Patience Unknown[1] (not the sister of Elizabeth).[4][5]

Patience was "probably" the mother of all five children (Elizabeth died only 2 months after their marriage). William removed from Norwich to Lebanon where two of his children's births were recorded.[6] We have only marriage and/or death dates for the first three children (any birth dates shown for them are guesses).[6]

William, who was the eldest, is sometimes reported as the child of William and Elizabeth, but this is without proof:[6] Patience was recorded as the mother of Ebenezer and Peter.[4]

Children of William (from the settlement of his estate in April 1729):[6]

  1. William Brustar/Brewster of Mansfield, eldest son; mar Dec 13, 1716 Mehitable Abel
  2. Patience Brewster; mar c. 1721 to Matthew DeWolfe of Bolton
  3. Samuel Brustar/Brewster bpt 2 May 1697 First Church of Chirst, New London, CT,[7] d 1776; mar Nov 30, 1726 to Tabitha Baldwin
  4. Ebenezer Brewster b 1 Feb 1702 Lebanon[8]; mar Nov 18, 1721 to Elizabeth DeWolf
  5. Peter Brewster b 17 Feb 1706 Lebanon[9], d Jan 27, 1802; mar 1) Feb 18, 1730 to Mary Lee, 2) Marion Unknown

Death and Legacy

William died 11 August 1728 at Lebanon, New London County, Connecticut.[6]

Hi Bob,

Duplicates, and if you look at the lower-left of the profiles, they have a merge proposed. Now we wait for the two managers to approve and merge. There is lots of information available at Help and Index in your upper-right, and Help Questions G2G is a great place to be a "fly on the wall" of WikiTree.

Good catch, Bob!

How can William have TWO sons named William born the same year, 1695, when he only had five children total?

Cynthia, from a bit of digging, there is a Massachessetts marriage record for

Name Anne Addis Spouse Ambrose Dart Marriage 24 Apr 1653 - Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts

So it looks like her maiden name was Addis or Addes and she was a widow when she married Benjamin Brewster.
