Biography

Micah was born in Orange County, New York in 1819, the son of Caleb Brewster and Deborah Mills. He married Aurelia W. Sackett on January 21, 1845.^[1] The couple had four children together, with Aurelia dying as a result of childbirth complications with her fourth child:

1. Sarah G. (1846-1926)^[2]
2. Frances Harriet (1848-1912)
3. Ellen Melissa (1849-1930)^[3]
4. George Ernest (1851-1932)^[4][5]

All of their children were born in Tecumseh. Whether Micah and Aurelia went "west" to the Michigan Territory soon after marrying, taking Aurelia's mother, and some of Aurelia's siblings, with them or that Micah and Aurelia went west separately and met in Michigan is unproven. They made their home in Tecumseh, in the southeastern portion of Michigan.^[6] After Aurelia's death, Micah married Mary Law Simpson (1824-1865), a Scottish immigrant, in 1853; it was her first marriage. Micah and Mary had five children together:

The family lived in Tecumseh, where Micah worked as a day laborer.^[9] Mary passed away in 1865. It's likely that Micah moved further north in Michigan; several of his children passed away in either Branch or Hillsdale County, and Micah likely had another son, Charles, who was born in Saginaw, Michigan in 1870.^[10] The name of the mother on the birth registration is Maria,^[11] and the 1870 census lists her as 20 years younger than Micah. Micah and Maria in Chesaning Township, in Saginaw County.^[12]

Nothing is known of Micah's passing but it is believed to have been around 1896.

Several census records list his first name as "Michael."
