He applied for a land gra nt in Herring Cove Settlement on May 7, 1838 in Hopewell Township. The do cument reads: The petition of Luke Brewster of the Parish of Hopewell a nd the County of Westmorland Humbley Sheweth That he is a British Subje ct born in New Brunswick and does not own any lands, that he wishes to obt ain by purchase of tract of land for immediate settlement containing For ty Acres and situate as follows being on the north side of land grant ed to Otis cannon and fronting on the bay shore in the Herring Cove Settle ment. The said land is in its wilderness state. Your petitioner has clea red one acre of the same and he requests that he may be allowed to purcha se at two Shillings and Six Pence per Acre payable total payment a nd if so allowed he is prepared to and settle himsself upon and improve t he same forthwith and conform in all respects with the regulations for gra nting of land. And as in duty will ever pray. Signed by Luke Brewst er at Hopewell dated February 3rd 1838.

(2) The note which follows on feb 21st 1838 advises the land herein appli ed for is vacant and unapplied for Crown Land, has been partially survey ed out, etc., and another note dated Mar 3rd 1838 that reads Complied wi th and signed by a Calhoun.

(3) Then in May the same year is the following:

The petition of Luke brewster of the Parish of Hopewell in the county of W estmorland humbly sheweth that he is a Britsih Subject born in New Brunswi ck and does not own any land, except the Forty Acres applied for by h im in February last on which the very small portion can be approved th at he wishes to obtain by purchase of tract of land for immediate settleme nt containing one hundred acres and situated as follows beginning one Hund red and Sixty Rods West from the North West Corner of a lot of land appli ed for by Smith Elliot on the rear of the Herring Cove Settlement and exte nding north; The said land is at present in a wilderness state no improvem ents having been made thereon and he requests that he may be allowed to pu rchase it at three Shillings per Acre payble by installments and if so all owed he is prepared to and will settle himself upon and will improve the s ame forthwith and conform in all distrcits with regulations for granti ng of lands. Signed Luke Brewster, Hopewell May 7th, 1838. This is follo wed by a note dated June 27, 1838 advising the land herein described is va cant Crwon Land that was not surveyed and no certificate can therefo re be given to state quality. The final notation reads: Not complied wit h, no survey. So it would appear the first submission was approved but t he second did not succeed.---Sharon Shadbolt, Riverview, New Brunswick.

(4) In 1851, He (Luke Brewster) was listed as a boot and shoemaker in Harv ey. He died on Aug 19, 1855 in Harvey, Albert Co., NB. A notice in t he NB Courier of Sept 28, 1855 reads: Died Harvey; 19th August 1855; Lu ke Brewster, age 52.---Sharon Shadbolt, Riverview, New Brunswick

1851 census Harvey: Luke (48), Hannah (41), Children: Susanna (19), Sar ah L. (16), William (14), Otis C. (12), James Annand (10), Addington P. (6 ), John Miles (3). All born in NB.

1861 Census Harvey: Hannah age 57 widow with 6 children still at home fr om William age 24 to Thamas A. age 10.

1871 Cenus Harvey: Hannah age 60 widow, born NB; baptist; Scottish desce nt (more likely of Irish descent); seamtress: residing with 4 sons, Otis a ge 31 and James age 27 are house joiners, and John Miles age 23 and thom as A. age 20 both seaman.

1881 Census Harvey: Hannah age 70 living with Otis age 38 and James a ge 36 house joiners and Alonzo (Thomas) age 29 with his wife Adelia a nd 2 young children.

1891 census Harvey, House # 143: Hannah age 81 living with son Otis a ge 51 and wife Mary.

1901 census Harvey: Hannah age 90, birth Apr 1810, living with son Otis a nd his wife Mary, Baptist.
