Biography

John was the youngest of 5 children born to William Brice of Maryland. He moved with his family to Alexandria, VA. After his father died in 1786, the family moved with their widowed mother to western Pennsylvania. John's 3 sisters married in Pennsylvania. His older brother, Benjamin J. Brice moved to Harrison Co., Virginia where he married Sarah (Ann Wilson's sister) Wilson, daughter of Col. Benjamin Wilson. His brother remained there for the rest of his life.

John studied medicine with Dr. Mowry of Pittsburg and joined his practice for a time. He traveled west to Lawrenceburg in Indiana Territory, then returned through Newark, Ohio to Harrison Co., Virginia where he married Ann, to whom he had been engaged. In January of 1807 he took his wife to Newark along with their only son, Benjamin W. Brice.

Dr. Brice practiced medicine in Neward for about 50 years. At his death, he was one of the wealthiest men in Licking Co., Ohio.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newardk, Licking Co., Ohio
