Biography

Caroline Brickey was born Apr 20 1837 in Botetourt, Virginia. Her parents were Jared Brickey and Nancy Parish Brickey.

On the 1850 Census, she was a 12 year old female living in Scott County, Virginia with her parents and siblings: Adeline Brickey, Parish Brickey, John Brickey, Patterson Brickey, Compton Brickey, William Brickey, Landon Brickey, and Elijah Brickey. According to this census, she was born in Virginia. [1]

Caroline married her 1st cousin Daniel M Brickey Aug 8 / 11 1853 in Scott County, Virginia. [2][3] Daniel Morgan Brickey was the son of William Brickey and Elizabeth Cox.[4]

Daniel was killed Mar 12 1865 in Chicago, Illinois during the Civil War. [4]

Caroline and Daniel had the following children: [5]

  3. Sena Victoria (1858-1864)

  6. Daniel Morgan (1862-1921), never married
  7. Melissa Caroline (1864-1956), m Richard Menafe Sparks

She married James Mason Oct 30 1866 in Scott County, Virginia, as his 3rd wife. Her name is listed as Catherine, not Caroline, but she is listed as a widow, age 28, daughter of Jarid Brickey and N, born in Botetourt, Virginia. James was age 55, b 1811. His parents were Jesse Mason and Sally. [6] 1880 Census shows her as Carolina. James died 1902.

Caroline and James had the following children:[5]

  1. Sarah Jane (1868-1877)
  2. William Franklin (1872-1964), m Eliza J MacDavid

She died Jan 1 1910 in Halcom, Elliott County, Kentucky. She is buried in Brickey Cemetery #5, Elliott County, Kentucky. [5]

Brickey-274 and Brickey-147 appear to represent the same person because: same death dates, birth date is probably typo, as seen by census ages, etc in Brickey-147.

Her parents are Jared and Nancy not William, who was her father in law when she married William and Elizabeth (Cox) Brickey's son Daniel, her 1st cousin. See sources in Brickey-147
