Biography

Harriet Selina Bridgeman birth was registered at Pewsey Wiltshire in 1847, she was the daughter of George Bridgeman and his wife Elizabeth Crosby. Harriet can be found on the 1851 census living at the family home with her parents, and younger sister Elizabeth. By 1861 Harriet is living and working at the farm of Charles Ranford at Woolfhall House, Great Bedwyn, Hungerford, Berkshire. Harriet is aged just thirteen. Harriet married William Smith at Burbage in 1866. William was also from the village of Burbage, and must have known each other from birth. By the time of the 1871 the couple lived at a place called Estsando Burbage. With them at that address are two of their four children, these are Clara Jane (b 1868) William (b 1870). In 1881 the couple can be found in Hammersmith in London, they moved there via Mayfield Sussex, when their third child Joseph was born there in 1878. Between 1878 and 1881 the couple moved from Sussex to Hammersmith, where their youngest child George was born in 1881. It is not known exactly when Harriet died but it was between 1881 and 1891. William, Harriet’s husband (widower) can be found in South Wales, with two of their children, William and Joseph. They are living at the home of Eli Bridgeman, the brother of Harriet. As yet I have not fully researched Harriet’s family beyond 1891. If anyone has any information regarding, her family please get back in touch and help me up date their profiles.
