Biography

Francis Bridges was born in Middlesex, England.

Francis Bridges migrated from England to New Zealand.

Francis was born about 1836 to grocer, Robert Bridges, and Hannah. He was baptised on 30th March 1836, at St Mary the VIrgin, in Twickenham, MIddlesex. ^[1]

During the 1841 England and Wales census, Francis, then five, was recorded as living with his parents, and siblings in Church Street, Twickenham, Middlesex. ^[2]

By the year 1861, 25-year-old Francis, a railway engineer, had married and was living with his wife, Margaret Jane and their first son in Brighton Grove, St Pauls, London, Kent, England. ^[3]

Francis arrived in New Zealand with his family on 9th November 1877 aboard the Ship Rangitiki, which left England on 4 Aug that same year. He was listed as a plate layer (railroad worker). ^[4]

His last residence was in Sydenham, Christchurch, New Zealand. ^[5]

Francis passed away in New Zealand in 1900 at the age of 64. ^[6] He was buried in Addington Cemetery, in Addington, Christchurch on 12th June. ^[7]
