Biography

Richard was born in 1680 at Coln Saint Dennis, Gloucestershire, to John Bridges and Aletheia , and was baptised there on 18 Aug 1680. [1].
On 12 Apr 1702, Richard married Elizabeth Jenner at Shrivenham, Berkshire, England, (now in Oxfordshire). [2] [3]
The marriage record shows that, at the time of marriage, Richard was living at Marston Maisey, Wiltshire, about 8 km north of Swindon, and 10km south of Coln St Dennis, apparently known locally as North Marston.
Richard and Elizabeth produced eight children :

Mary - (baptised) 30 Dec 1703
Thomas - 16 Nov 1705
John - 20 Feb 1707
William - 8 Aug 1710
Betty - 30 Dec 1712
Ann - 21 May 1715
Daniel - 21 Aug 1718
John - 11 May 1721

Research Notes

The birth/baptism record for Richard's son, William, records that his mother was Elizabeth, with no family name stated. This name was ascertained by setting search filters to find persons named Richard Bridges, who were married before December 1703, being the birth of their first child, (Mary), and not married before1698 when Richard turned 18. It was also most likely to have taken place in the southwest of England, around Gloucestershire / Berkshire / Wiltshire, where other family members resided.
A search of filtered records produced one positive return - Elizabeth Jenner, born 1681 in Meysey Hampton, Gloucestershire, and married at Shrivenham, Berkshire, (now in Oxfordshire), in 1702.

There are many towns and villages in England containing the word "Marston", and what the record calls North Marston, in this instance, is understood to mean Marston Maisey, which is about 8 km north of Swindon, and known locally as North Marston, presumably to distinguish it from South Marston on the eastern edge of Swindon. It is also noted that the name "North Marston" in national mapping officially refers to a village near Luton, some 50 km away to the east, and not associated with Marston Maisey in any way.
