Lawrence Briggs was born on 16 January 1889. He was the son of Timothy Briggs and Florence Annie Thompson, [1] and was baptised on 22 June 1889 in Clayton, St John, Yorkshire. The family were living in Clayton and his father was a Joiner. [2]
Lawrence lived with his parents and siblings in Clayton in 1891, [3] and 1901, when age 12 was working as a Worsted Spinner. [4] In 1911 age 22, he was employed as a Clerk for a Wool Merchant. [5]
On 3 January 1916 he married Mary Jane Silverwood at Allerton Congregational Church, Bradford. [6][7]They had a son Lawrence born in 1918.
Lawrence was a Lance Corporal in the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, however he was killed in action on 22 March 1918, and was buried in Pozieres, Departement de la Somme, Picardie, France [8][9][10]
