Thomas Young Briggs was born on February 18, 1797 in Nescopeck Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, the third child of John Briggs and Hanna Klingmann.[1][2]
As a young man, Thomas migrated west to Scioto County, Ohio where some of his maternal relatives had settled. There, he met and married Adaline Spalding on November 28, 1830.[3]
By 1834, Thomas and Adaline moved their growing family to Greene County, Illinois (after 1839 became part of Jersey County), where Thomas purchased 160 acres in Section 35, Township 7, Range 11 to farm.[4]
Thomas' in-laws soon followed together with all of Adaline's siblings.
After the death of his in-laws, Thomas took in three of Adaline's youngest siblings.[5]
Thomas died on February 02, 1879 in East Newbern, Jersey County, Illinois, United States of America[1]
