OBITUARY. The Late Mrs. Catherine Cole.—The late Mrs. Catherine Cole, relict of the late Mr. Archibald Hamblin Lowry Cole, passed away on the 2nd instant, at Ord-street, Claremont, in her 64th year. The deceased was born at Calcutta, India, and was a daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Briggs, veterinary surgeon. She arrived in this State in the ship Molva in 1853, when only twelve months old. Twenty years later she went to Singapore and then to Yokohama, Japan, where her late husband was editor of the "Japan Gazette." He was also special correspondent for the "New York Herald" at the signing of the Tientsin Treaty with Great Britain.

After an absence of twelve years in the far East, she returned to Australia, and resided in Victoria for four years, before coming to this State. A grown-up family of four sons and two daughters survive her. The funeral cortege moved from the deceased's late residence on Tuesday, and proceeded to the Karrakatta Cemetery, where the remains were interred in the Anglican portion. The Rev. Reginald J. Smith officiated at the graveside.

The chief mourners were: Messrs. Lowry, Archibald, and Joseph Cole (sons), Messrs. Thomas and Alfred Briggs (brothers), Mrs. J. Freeman, Mrs. R. Howson, and Mrs. J. Hossock (sisters), Messrs. James Caporn and William Tapping (uncles), Mr. E. E. Humphry (nephew), and Mrs. Tom Blinco. and Messrs. J. G. and G. W. Caporn, Mrs. A. Arnold, Mrs. F. Harris, and Mrs. S. Reidy (cousins). Many handsome wreaths were placed on the grave and numerous letters and telegrams of sympathy have been received by the relatives. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Arthur E. Davies and Co., Claremont.
