John Nelson Chapman Briggs was born September 21, 1824 in Stoney Creek, Albert, New Brunswick.[1][2]
In 1851, John N C Briggs, his wife, Rachel and their children Rosanna J, age 4 years, and Horatio, age 1 year, were living in Coverdale, Albert, New Brunswick.[1]
In 1871, John, age 47 years, his wife, Rachel, age 43 years were living in Moncton, Westmorland, New Brunswick, along with their children:
John Nelson Chapman Briggs, age 93 years, died May 25, 1918 at Moncton, Westmorland, New Brunswick.[2]
After his wife Rachel died in 1880, he married Rebecca on 28 May 1881 in Moncton, NB.
John adopted both of Rebecca's children, Ruth and Annie. [See research notes]
On Ancestry it lists John as having 10 children with Rachel Fagen only some of which have been sourced and added to wikitree:

John being the adoptive father of Rebecca's daughters, Ruth and Annie.
In Ruth's marriage announcement it clearly states she is his adopted daughter. [See photo source uploaded]. On Annie's marriage certificate it lists her parents as “John & Rebecca” [4]
In the 1891 census, Ruth and Annie [+ husband, R. Allison Trites] are shown as living next door to John NC Briggs & Rebecca Briggs.
