Matthew and Sarah had five children, according to Sarah's obituary[5]; three sons and two daughters. The children listed in the 1870 census[6] are as follows:
Naoma L. Briggs (would marry C. E. Young), age 18
Chamberlain (would marry Margaret Bell Doak), age 15
William J. Briggs, age 11
Olive M. Brigges, age 6
He died on 2 Oct 1909 in Delphos, Allen, Ohio. The informant for preparation of his death certificate was his daughter, Mrs. C. E. Young (Naoma).[3]
