His father, John Bright senior, died in 1638 leaving a will as of John Bright of Finchingfield, Essex, husbandman. [1]
Sometime around 1650 he married Lydia Tabrum. A marriage has not currently been found, but in his will of 1669, John appoints his brother in law Arthur Tabrum as his executor. In Arthur Tabrum's will of 1680 he mentions his sister Lydia Bright. [2] They had at least six children.
He died in 1669 leaving a will as of John Bright of Finchingfield, Essex, Yeoman, written on 19 Feb 1663, and proved 17 Dec 1669. [3]
To Elizabeth my wife all my movable goods and household stuff, plus my house and farm called Justice? in Finchingfield and my stock of crown cattle. Also my crown cattle and stock at my farm called Walford's. Also the stock from my farm called Skinners.
To my son Robert the house wherein I now live called Walford's as well as the land that was his mothers joynter.
To Mary, Jane, Sarah and Lydia, my four daughters the rents on the remainder of my lands which were my fathers, along with a house called Skinner's until my son Robert shall attain the age of thirty one years.
To Arthur my son a piece of land in Finchingfield called Dicklings now in the occupation of my sister Lydia Bright. Also a parcel of land in Lindsell, Essex now in the occupation of John Cornell. Also a tenement with yard in the occupation of my brother William Tabrum. Also two tenements in Thaxted in the occupation of William Browne and another in the occupation of Robert Overstone.

To Lydia my wife all my copyhold messuages and tenements which I purchased of John Choald and now in the occupation of William Bayley in the parish of Great Bardfield.
After her decease the same unto my two sons Samuel and Edward.
And if after my decease Lydia my wife shall at any time claim her thirds to certain land lying in Spaines Hold, which i late hold of Mrs Bowtell of Thaxted, then the said third be paid her out of the said house and land.
To my son John my house and land lying in Shalford at the age of twenty years.
Also to John my household stuff , the long table in the hall, the cupboard in the hall, the chest in the parlour, two joined stools and the joined chairs in the parlour, also at age twenty years.
To my son Robert my house and land at Bardfield town, now in the occupation of (blank) Ballard at age twenty years. Also to son Robert my movable goods, the long table and cupboard in the parlour, two joined stools and my green chair.
To my two daughters Lydia and Susanna £40 each at age twenty or at marriage.
And I do appoint and make my brother in law Arthur Tabrum as executor.
