He was born about 1655. He was the son of John Bright.
His father John died in 1669 leaving a will as of John Bright of Finchingfield, Essex, Yeoman, written on 19 Feb 1663, and proved 17 Dec 1669. [1] He bequeaths Samuel various copyhold land in Great Bardfield, Essex.
Samuel died in 1738. He was buried at Great Bardfield, Essex on 8 Jan 1738. [2] He left a will, written 8 Feb 1737/38 and proved 7 Apr 1738. In his will he leaves the bulk of his estate to the children (and grandchildren) of his brother John Bright, which is to say £4 to his neice Lydia (Bright) Banes, fifty shillings to his nephew John Bright and the residue of his estate to his great nephew Samuel Bright. His nephew Samuel Bright acted as executor. [3]
To Lydia my wife all my copyhold messuages and tenements which I purchased of John Choald and now in the occupation of William Bayley in the parish of Great Bardfield.
After her decease the same unto my two sons Samuel and Edward.
And if after my decease Lydia my wife shall at any time claim her thirds to certain land lying in Spaines Hold, which i late hold of Mrs Bowtell of Thaxted, then the said third be paid her out of the said house and land.
To my son John my house and land lying in Shalford at the age of twenty years.
Also to John my household stuff , the long table in the hall, the cupboard in the hall, the chest in the parlour, two joined stools and the joined chairs in the parlour, also at age twenty years.
To my son Robert my house and land at Bardfield town, now in the occupation of (blank) Ballard at age twenty years. Also to son Robert my movable goods, the long table and cupboard in the parlour, two joined stools and my green chair.
To my two daughters Lydia and Susanna £40 each at age twenty or at marriage.
And I do appoint and make my brother in law Arthur Tabrum as executor.
