Samuel Bright was born on 2 June 1881, at Clan William Lane, in Dublin South, Ireland. He was the son of Hugh Bright and Mary Jane Hart. [1] A few years earlier, Hugh and Mary Jane Bright had another son named Samuel James Bright who was born in 1878, at Killarney. He was a twin, and sadly, he died from croup, on 17 December 1880, in Dublin. [2]
In 1889, Samuel Bright travelled with his parents and siblings on the vessel "Ohio", to the United States. The Bright family departed from Liverpool, and arrived at Philadelphia, on 1 April 1889; Hugh Bright, 44, Mary Jane Bright 43, Minnie Bright 22, Hugh Bright 11, Ann Bright 9, Samuel J Bright 6, and Susan Bright, aged 4 years. [3] His name was recorded as Samuel J Bright.
In 1900, Samuel Bright was living with his siblings and his father, Hugh Bright, a widower, at Wycliffe Street, Pittsburgh. According to the USA Census record, Samuel was working as a day labourer, and his birth details were recorded as June 1882, Ireland. [4]
In 1940, Samuel Bright was living at Pittsburg, and the USA Census record states that he was 57 years of age, single, and a resident of Mayview Hospital. [5]
Samuel Bright passed away on 2 October 1940, at Pittsburgh. His brother-in-law, Joseph Stanier, registered the death, and stated that Samuel's father was Hugh Bright. It would seem that Joseph Stanier wasn't sure of Samuel's mother's name, so he wrote the name Elizabeth, with a question mark. [6]
Samuel Bright was buried on 4 October 1940, at Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA. [7]
