Biography

Catherine was born about 1742 in Walpack Township, Sussex, New Jersey to parents Thomas Huyberts Brink and Antje "Anna" Kleyn. No baptism record is found, but she is mentioned in her father's Will dated 8 Dec 1761.^{[1] [2]}

Catherine married David Smiley^[3] sometime around 1863, right before their first child was born. They lived along Brodhead Creek in Lower Smithfield Township, Pennsylvania (present-day Stroudsburg, Monroe County, Pennsylvania)^[4][5].

The couple had seven children, namely: (1) Sarah married Joseph Lee, (2) Ann married Ebenezer Lee, (3) Catherine married Richard Stone, (4) Thomas married Catherine Lucretia Boyes, (5) John married Susannah Morgan, (6) Hannah married Joseph Price, and (7) David Jr. married Mary "Polly" Staples. All seven are mentioned in David Smiley's Last Will and Testament dated 1817, though there's no mention of Catherine, so it's likely she passed away before then.^[6]

Research Notes

• On page 58 of A Brink Book, Catherine is incorrectly noted as having married Gerson Simpson. This is a mix up with another Catherine Brink, born 1728 to parents, Lambertus Brink and Rachel Van Garden, and also mentioned in A Brink Book on page 665. The wedding between Gerson Simpson and Cathrina Brinck took place 20 Aug 1749, which rules out Catherine Brink b. ca 1742 since she would've been too young.
