Sarah attended school in Elbert County and met her future husband, Thomas Craft. They were married on 11 August 1940 in Starr, Anderson, South Carolina. Sarah was 14 and Thomas was 20, though they claimed to be 19 and 21 respectively. 
Sarah and Thomas lived on farm land that they first rented and then owned. They raised chickens and grew crops. After World War II the family moved to DeKalb County, Georgia, but often returned to pick cotton in the summer. The family lived a few different places in DeKalb and Gwinnett Counties before settling in 1960 at Harmony Grove Road, where they would remain for the rest of their lives
Sarah died on 23 Feb 2008 at her daughter's home in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
