Biography

Phyllis Freda May Britten, married name Harrison, was born 28th September 1921 at Yeronga Avenue, North Kensington Park, South Australia. Her birth was registered in the Norwood district, South Australia, as the daughter of James Alfred Britten and Louisa Muriel MayTranter. [1]

Education. Phyllis and her older sister Dulcie were enrolled at the Norwood Central School on 4th February 1929. Phyllis Freda's birthdate was recorded 28.9.21 and Dulcie's as 15.12.19. At the time, their father John Alfred Britten, of 32 Yeronga Av., North Kensington Park, worked as a labourer. The girls' previous school had been St Morris, from where they had left at the end of the school year.

They began their new school at the same grade level, grades 3 and 5, respectively. Dulcie gained her qualification certificate on 2nd June 1931, when she was in grade 7. At the end of that school year she was transferred to Norwood High School.

On 15th April 1933, Phyllis was in grade 6 when she transferred back to St. Morris. [2]

Occupation. After leaving school, Phyllis worked in a post office before she married and had three children. [3]

Marriage. In February 1943, she wed Edward James (Ted ) Harrison.

Death. Phyllis Freda May Harrison passed away 12th September 2009, aged 87. [5]

Burial. On the 17th September, she was interred in the Centennial Park Cemetery, joining Edward who had predeceased her in 1970. Her last abode was Salisbury, South Australia. [6] [7]
