H. BRITTON Windsor has had a visit from the stern messenger of death, who carried away one of her oldest and highly esteemed citizens, W H Britton. On New Year's day Mr. Britton was out around the barn in the afternoon doing some chores in his usual health when he was suddenly smitten down with a paralytic stroke. Medical aid was at once summoned to his bedside, but of no avail and he quietly breathed his last early Friday morning. Mr Britton was one of Windsor's earliest settlers. He had been post master ever since the post office had been established in this place, thirty years ago. He held the office of school secretary ever since the new school law came in force. He was one of the Justices of the Peace of the parish. The deceased was seventy-two years 3 months and 2 days old. He was married 49 years ago and leaves a sorrowing wife, 4 sons and 3 daughters. One son, Willie, is in Pennsylvania, one daughter, Bertha, wife of D. McKenzie, is in Winnipeg. The rest of the family were with him in his last moments. The funeral services were conducted at the house and church by Rev. G A Giberson. The deceased had been a member of the Orange order since the memorable year of '47'. His remains were preceded to the grave by over 50 Orangemen in full regalia and the burial service of the order was rendered at the grave." {The year '47' was the time of Woodstock riots.} and Sentinel Press, Woodstock, NB, (microfilm at National Library, Ottawa) iss. 16 Mar 1906: died “at Windsor, Mar 7th, Mrs Wm Britton, aged 75. She leaves four sons and two daughters besides a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn their sad loss. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. G. A. Giberson.”
