• Fact: http://familysearch.org/v1/LifeSketch Martha (nee Brizentine) Smith was born in Cox county, Tennessee to Abner Brizendine and Caroline Davis/Told (??), a native American woman (Cherokee?). On her death certificate (Vernon county, 1918), their mother's name is given as "Caroline Told" but it is very hard to read.

Martha was raised by her stepmother. This is because after his first wife Caroline died, Abner remarried and moved to northern Missouri (Daviess county) with his second wife and all the children from the first marriage. They had even more children after moving to Missouri. Martha's tombstone says she was born on 30 January 1844. However, her death certificate gives her birth date as 20 January 1845. She married Simon W. Smith on 10 February 1861 in Daviess county, Missouri. The couple had nine(?) children. She died on April 3rd, 1918 in Virgil township, Vernon county, Missouri.
