Biography

Harold was born in 1909 in Dorchester, Dorset.

In 1911 aged 2, he was living at 6, Cornwall Rd Dorchester with his father, Theodore Belchambers Broadway, aged 39, a medical practitioner, his mother, Jessie Minnie Isabel Broadway, aged 29, and 2 siblings, Reginald Dick Broadway aged 6 and his baby sister Jessie Maureen Broadway. Also living there were Helen Jane Dick his mothers sister and a servant Beatrice Maud Dick aged 19.

In 1932 he married Vera M Furness in Bristol.

In 1939 he lived at 17, Cornwall Rd Dorchester. Also there was his wife Vera and a children's nursemaid, Ella M Mills (Peters) born 9th Dec 1916. There were two other people on the record, presumably the children, but the records are currently closed.

During WW2, Harold was Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve on HMS Dunedin, enlisting soon after the outbreak of war. He was a Lieut Commander Surgeon. He was reported missing presumed killed when the vessel was attacked on 24th November 1941.

He is remembered on St Thomas's hospital roll of honour, Portsmouth Naval Memorial and Roll of the fallen University of London.

Surg. Lieut.-Cmdr. Harold Theodore Logan Broadway, R.N.V.R., is posted as missing, presumed killed in an Admiralty Casualty List published on June 24. He received his professional education at St. Thomas's Hospital, qualified M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. in 1932, and then held the house post at the Royal Victoria and West Hants Hospital, Boscombe. He had been in practice in Dorchester since 1932, in partnership with Dr. T. B. Broadway, and was honorary anaesthetist to the Dorset County Hospital. He entered the R.N.V.R. as temp. prob. surg. lieut. soon after the outbreak of war and was reported missing in the Journal of March 21. He had been a member of the B.M.A. since qualification.
