Biography

Josiah Brockman was born about 1823 in Green County, Kentucky. He was the son of John Hamilton Brockman and Judith Shipp.[1]

He married Mary Ann Brockman on 17 May 1843 in Green County, Kentucky. Her father Washington Brockman gave his consent to the marriage in a written note to the Green County Court clerk. His signature (his mark) was witnessed by Samuel Farmer and James Craig. Samuel Farmer accompanied Josiah as his bondsman to obtain the license.[2][3]

Josiah and Mary Ann were the parents of 11 children:

Josiah died on 10 September 1877 as the result of a boiler explosion. The Lebanon Times and Kentuckian reported that the steam mill of Mr Samuel Maupin of Taylor County was totally destroyed by the explosion of the boiler. Josiah was standing a hundred yards away and was instantly killed. Mr Maupin and two of his sons were seriously scalded, as well as a mill hand Richard Wise. The elder Mr Maupin died a couple of weeks later from his injuries.[1][6][7]
