Elizabeth Nycholas was born about 1560 in Wiltshire, England, to unknown parents. [1] She married three times. Her first marriage was to Mathew Maylard or Mallerd, 20 November 1580 in Salibury, Wiltshire. [2]. She and Mathew had one surviving son, Mathew, christened 20 March 1581 in Salisbury.[3]
Mathew Sr. died about 1584. Elizabeth married her second husband, John Brockwell, 8 October 1587.[4] She and John apparently had four daughters, only one of whom survived to adulthood:
Elizabeth, christened 3 December 1589 in Salisbury.[6]
Mary, born about 1593 (no christening record); married Thomas Roberts 9 June 1611 in Salisbury[7] and, after his death, Symon or Simon Bramble 5 September 1613 in Salisbury.[8]
Joane, christened 18 July 1596 in Salisbury.[9] Anne, Elizabeth, and Joane must have predeceased their mother as they are not mentioned in her will.
John died about 1597. Elizabeth's third and final marriage was to Christopher Osgood, 30 October 1599, again in Salisbury. [10]
She was a widow with at least two children when she married Christopher, her son Mathew Maylard and her daughter Mary Brockwell, who married Thomas Roberts. [11] No children of Christopher Osgood were named in her will. [11]
Elizabeth (Nycholes) (Maylard) (Brockwell) Osgood dated her will 9 June 1612; it was proved 27 June 1612. In her will she is called Elizabeth Osgood, widow, of Salisbury, and she requests burial in the churchyard of St. Thomas, Sarum (Salisbury). [11] From "English Origins of New England Families, Second Series Vol. II [database on-line], she names in her will her son Matthew Maylard, Margaret, wife of Edward Noble, Priscilla Hicks, son-in-law Thomas Roberts, and friends John Hicks and John Upton.[1]
Elizabeth died in June 1612 and was buried in Salisbury 21 June 1612.[12]
