James Brodie was born on 7 January 1772 in Garvald, Haddingtonshire, Scotland, the son of Alexander Brodie (1730– )[1].

His siblings were:

  1. Margaret Brodie (1773–>1815)
  2. Janet Brodie (1775–1853)

James (37) married Anne Church (24) (born on 4 November 1784 in in Eckford, Roxburghshire, Scotland; daughter of James Church and Eleanor (MacDonald) Church) on 9 June 1809 in Eckford, Roxburghshire, Scotland[2].

Their children were:

  1. Alexander Brodie (1810–1877)
  2. James Church Brodie (1815–1900)
  3. John Brodie (1819–1851)
  4. William Church Brodie (1821–1899)

James died on 8 August 1838 in Farnihurst, aged 66[citation needed].

Research Notes

It is not known where Farnihurst is and there is not a burial record on ScotlandsPeople which relates to the date provided.

Ferniehirst Castle however is located about 1.5 miles south of Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, could James have died in the area of the Castle?
