Hello Clan Brodie. I believe that George Brodie is my 4th great-grandfather and so I have been researching him and his relatives for a couple years. While searching the Nat'l Records of Scotland Old Parish Registers Marriage for his marriage records to Isobel, I used the wildcards allowed search option and found the following record:
This is the best transcription of the text that I can make from the handwriting:
"Nov 29 George Brodie and Isoble Gillmour both in this parish ever proclaimed this day and on the 18th day of December thereafter as conjugalis by the Reverend W. Cheeslie."
So I think that the marriage date for Isobel Gilmour and George Brodie is 18 Dec 1772 in Dalmeny Parish. The record was hidden all these years because it was mis-labeled as Bittie instead of Brodie because of a transcription error. That is my hypothesis. Do you agree?
I have the .pdf file of the original marriage register, but I am new to wikitree and not sure how to share that files to other members. Any help or feedback you can provide would be welcome. I would also like to discuss some of the other findings from the Nat'l Records of Scotland Old Parish Registers.
