Douglas Campbell Brodie died In Vancouver BC on November 13, 2006 at the remarkable age of 104. He had had a most exceptional life including more than 50 years in the shipping business in China and Japan. He was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1902, the son of Major Harry Campbell Brodie MBE, a career officer serving in the British Army. The balance of his life story is best told in his own words, left in written recollections late in his life for his family:
There is a memorial stone at the cemetery in Alexandria, PA which suggests burial of Douglas Campbell Brodie and his wife Frances Marion (Black) Brodie. The stone was placed in anticipation of their wishes to be buried at the ancestral home of the Blacks but they changed their minds later and were in fact cremated with their ashes scattered over the garden at Canadian Memorial Church, Vancouver, BC where most of their children live.
