Biography

Pvt Woodson Bromfield served in the United States Civil War.

Woodson was born 1824-25. His last name is spelled Brumfield, Broomfield, and Bromfield in various documents. He joined Poindexter's Company, Missouri Calvalry in 1862. He was captured in Bates County, Missouri on 11 April 1862, sent to the Alton Military Prison, and died there on 21 Nov of rheumatism and was buried in Alton. In 1867, the remains of prisoners were moved to the Confederate Cemetery in North Alton (now simply Alton) and in 1907 a monument was erected to the Confederate soldiers who died in the prison. His name is on the monument as W.S. Bromfield.
