Samuel John Bromilow, known as John, was born on 20 Oct 1827, and christened on 17 Dec 1827 at New Chapel in Baldwin Street, St Helens, Lancashire. He was the son of Enock and Ann Bromilow. His father's occupation was recorded as coal agent, and the family's address as Eccleston.

John's father died in 1835, aged 29; he was buried on 11 Mar 1835 at New Chapel. His address was recorded as Thatto Heath.

By June 6th 1841, John and his sister Mary and brother John were living in Thatto Heath, Eccleston, Lancashire with their uncle William Atherton and family. Uncle William was working as a glass grinder. Mary was employed as a domestic servant, John was a glass polisher and Enoch a glass grinder.

John married Mary Rigney on 25 Oct 1846 at St Peter's Church in Liverpool (as John Bromilow). Neither had been married before. John was a minor (not yet 21 years old), worked as a joiner, and lived in Plumb Street. Mary was of full age and lived in Saint Anne Street. Their fathers were named as Enoch Bromilow (joiner) and James Rigney (labourer). The witnesses were Robert Dobson and Ellen Rigney.

Their son Enoch was born in 1847 in St Helens.^[1] He died in infancy.^[2]

Their son James was born on 27 Sep 1848 in St Helens.^[3][4]

They emigrated to the United States in about 1848.^[5] When the 1850 census was taken, they were living in Charlestown, Sullivan, New Hampshire along with their marriage witness Robert Dobson and his wife and children and a lot of Rigneys.
