John, son of Richard Brook, a clothier of Helme, and Susanna Wood, was baptized on 27 March 1768 at the Chapelry of Meltham, in the parish of Almondbury[1].
John married twice. He first married Betty Pearson at All Hallows, Almondbury, on 26 September 1791[2]. They went on to have three daughters together, but she died in 1801. He then married Mary Wild at All Hallows, Almondbury, on 11 April 1803[3]. The marriage took place two days before the birth of their first son, Joseph. They went on to have at least nine children together.
