Catherine was born on Monday 7 April 1544. She was the fourth daughter of George Brooke KG, Lord Cobham, and his wife Anne Bray, sister and coheir of John Lord Bray.[1]
She must have been married to John Jerningham at the age of 17 in 1561 when the Brooke Tomb was built since her figure on the tomb includes the Jerningham coat of arms.[2]
On 14 October 1591 there was a court case "Lord Cobham v Jernegan" which implies that John Jerningham/Jernegan had died first leaving a jointure for his wife Catherine and that Catherine had also died or remarried by this date.[3] Some sources say that she married, as a second husband, a Bellamy.[4]
