He was a member of the Territorial Force, and served with the Royal Army Medical Corps in Gallipoli, Thessaloniki and Palestine during World War I.[1]
William's marriage to Lydia G M Wilson was registered in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter of 1919 in the Bethnal Green district.[2]
They migrated to Tasmania, Australia via Melbourne on the Orsova in 1921 with a baby.[1]
He was an unsuccessful candidate for the state parlaiment seat of Franklin in 1931. HE was successful (for the Australian Labor Party) in 1934, and remained in that seat until his death in 1948. He became premier on 18 December 1947, but resigned on 24 February 1948.[1]
He passed away on 18 June 1948 of acute pulmonary oedema.[1]
