Mary Elizabeth Brooks was born on April 22, 1820, in Hardinsville, Shelby, Kentucky.[1] She was the daughter of Thomas Brooks[2] and Nancy Juliet (Doggett) Brooks.
She married Santford Vardamon Ross on September 17, 1840, in Shelby, Kentucky.[3] They had nine children.
Santford was a Farmer by occupation. They lived on their farm in Shelby, Kentucky, in 1850. By then Nancy-7, Vardiman-5, Absalom-3 and Thurman-2 had been born.[5] They were still in Shelby, Harrisonville Post Office, Kentucky in 1860. By then Susan-8, Virgil-6, Delia-4 and Presley age 1 had been born.[6] they were on the same farm by 1870 where by then all the children had been born, and Susan-18, Vigtil-16, Delia-14, Presley-14, and Lorna age 2 were in the home.[7] They moved on to Iowa.
She died on August 26, 1899, in Ottumwa, Iowa, at the age of 79, and was buried in Polk, Iowa in the Brooks Cemetery.[1]
